Welcome Letter
I am SO delighted you've joined this writing workshop!
Let's dive right in.
Here are the key conditions needed to be creative:
Space: to stretch, to test our muscles, to bend into weird shapes, to experiment, to imagine, to visualize, to see where our ideas go when they have pastures to roam.
Time: to sit with, to do over, to gnaw on, to take low-stakes risks, to try and cross out, to wander, to explore.
Fidelity: to show up, to sit down, to take in, to wrestle with, to sweat, to get worn out and rest and come back again, to believe, to give over to, to trust, to hope, to dream.
Here's a fourth key condition for creativity, especially for moms:
Permission: to be here. To take this time and space. To believe that whatever we cultivate here will reap rewards back in our lives... often in ways we can't anticipate. To commune with each other. To nourish ourselves. To write.
This is what I'm asking YOU to bring to this workshop, in order to cultivate and honor these conditions for creativity:
A notebook you can't wait to crack open.
A drink that makes you feel like you're treating yourself: fresh coffee, hot tea, a Coke from the fridge, whatever that is for you.
A commitment to give yourself the time, space, fidelity, and permission to devour this workshop and everything it offers you.
Here's what I will bring:
An OVERFLOWING GRAB-BAG of journaling magic. Think of this like your grandma's sewing basket: a thousand different textures, patches of color exploding everywhere, fluff flying, half-finished crocheted hats, ten different kinds of needles depending on the job at hand. Each of us have a distinct entry point into journaling. Whether yours is magazine collage, word jumbles, a fiery conversation, good ol' fashioned prompts, quiet meditation, improv, or some form still tossing and turning deep in your brain... I've got you covered. We'll put it all together and pull out something stunning.
My BEST journaling wisdom, cultivated across my own 25-year journaling practice. I'll teach you my own strategies for carving out consistent time, conjuring that spark that makes you want to write, and letting your practice give back to you: taking what you learn from journaling and applying it to your everyday.
A COMMITMENT to create and nurture the community that emerges out of this workshop, so you can keep in contact with other journaling mamas long after you finish this course.
A multitude of creative templates from the exercises we do together, so you can take them back into your life and use them again and again.
Upon your completion of this course, an exclusive invitation to join the live Lunch Break Journaling for Moms Zoom group that journals together every Wednesday at 12:30 ET. We have a blast writing together, and we can't wait for you to join us!
